The Vanishing: Part Two

The Footage

Seventy-two days after MH370 disappeared, two videos surfaced on YouTube that appeared to show the aircraft being intercepted over the Indian Ocean by three luminous objects. If they're real, they change everything. If they're fake, they're the most sophisticated military footage hoax ever produced.

Part Two examines fourteen independent technical features in the footage that are consistent with authentic military surveillance: MISB 0601 metadata compliance, a three-layer frame rate structure matching a Citrix recording pipeline, coordinates that place the aircraft near the Nicobar Islands, cloud patterns that match NASA Worldview data for the correct date, a thermal profile that matches the Boeing 777-200ER, and a stereoscopic 3D format that US Navy attorney Larry Youngner confirmed was presented as evidence in the Edward C. Lin federal prosecution.

It also takes the strongest debunking arguments head-on: the Textures.org cloud match, the Corridor Crew VFX analysis, and the satellite dating problem.

0:00 Recap of Part One
In Part One, we traced Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 from departure to disappearance. A Boeing 777 carrying two hundred and thirty-nine people vanished from radar over the South China Sea, then turned west, crossed the Malay Peninsula, and flew into the Indian Ocean. Satellite handshakes placed the aircraft along a curve called the seventh arc. Three major searches, covering a quarter of a million square kilometres of ocean floor, found nothing at the predicted crash site.
0:36 Two Videos Surface
In the months after the disappearance, two videos surfaced on YouTube. They appeared to show military surveillance footage of three unidentified objects intercepting a Boeing 777 over the Indian Ocean. If they're real, they change everything. If they're fake, they are the most sophisticated military footage hoax ever created.

## ACT 1: THE VIDEOS
1:47 The Satellite Video
On May the nineteenth, 2014, seventy-two days after MH370 disappeared, an anonymous YouTube user called RegicideAnon uploaded a video. The description stated the footage had been received on March the twelfth, four days after the aircraft vanished. A second video followed on June the twelfth. The original uploads were later removed. Copies survive on the Internet Archive and through community re-uploads. RegicideAnon has never been identified. There is no metadata chain connecting the videos to any military, intelligence, or government source. Everything we know about their authenticity comes from what is in the footage itself.
2:36 The Thermal Video
The first video appears to be from a satellite or wide-area surveillance system, a top-down perspective looking straight down at the Earth's surface. It shows a commercial aircraft in flight, surrounded by three luminous objects in a roughly triangular formation. The objects orbit the aircraft, maintaining consistent spatial relationships as they move. The coordinate overlay refreshes once per second, displaying a position near eight-point-eight-three-four degrees north, ninety-three-point-four-seven-three degrees east. The video culminates in what can only be described as a terminal event. A visible distortion field appears around the aircraft, and then the aircraft vanishes.
3:27 Frame-by-Frame Synchronisation
The second video shows what appears to be the same event captured from a completely different sensor, a thermal infrared camera, consistent with the forward-looking infrared systems carried by military drones like the MQ-9 Reaper. The perspective is oblique, looking across at the aircraft rather than straight down. The same three luminous objects are visible. The same terminal event occurs. The thermal video also shows something the satellite video does not, operator artifacts. Camera shake during zoom. Input delay between mouse movement and camera response. A cursor entering from off-screen. These are characteristics of a live operator session being screen-recorded, not a composited visual effects render.
4:08 Fourteen Authentication Points
When the two videos are synchronised and compared frame by frame, the three objects maintain consistent three-dimensional spatial relationships across both perspectives. They were filmed from completely different angles, one from directly above, one from an oblique side view, with different sensor types. Creating this consistency in visual effects would require building a complete three-dimensional scene and rendering two separate camera angles with physically correct parallax. This is not impossible, but it is the single hardest thing to fake convincingly, and no one has demonstrated it in any recreation attempt. ## ACT 2: THE AUTHENTICATION
4:29 MISB 0601 Metadata Compliance
Over the past three years, investigator Ashton Forbes and an open-source community of researchers have identified fourteen independent technical features in the footage that are consistent with authentic military surveillance. Several of these can be verified by anyone using publicly available tools. We will examine the most significant.
5:18 Three Simultaneous Frame Rates
The satellite video's coordinate overlay refreshes at one hertz, once per second. This is consistent with MISB ST 0601, a metadata standard published by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency for military full-motion video. MISB stands for the Motion Imagery Standards Board, a NATO and NGA body that defines how surveillance metadata is embedded in military video feeds. The standard is publicly available. Anyone can verify the compliance. The refresh rate, the field structure, the coordinate format, they match the specification. Fabricating this level of compliance would require detailed knowledge of a military metadata standard that most visual effects artists have never heard of.
6:22 Coordinates Near the Nicobar Islands
The satellite video has three independent frame rates operating simultaneously. The base layer, the actual imagery, runs at six frames per second. This is consistent with Wide Area Motion Imagery systems like Gorgon Stare Increment Two, a real-time surveillance system deployed on MQ-9 Reaper drones. The Drone Papers, classified documents leaked in 2015, confirm these systems were operational in the relevant timeframe. Six frames per second is a hardware-level specification, not a number a visual effects artist would typically know or think to replicate. The outer two layers both run at twenty-four frames per second, consistent with a Citrix remote desktop session being screen-recorded. Military operators commonly access classified systems through thin-client remote desktop environments. The three-layer structure, six, twenty-four, twenty-four, matches a Citrix recording pipeline exactly.
7:03 NASA Worldview Weather Match
The coordinates embedded in the satellite video, eight-point-eight-three-four degrees north, ninety-three-point-four-seven-three degrees east, place the aircraft near the Nicobar Islands. This is on a direct westward trajectory from the last military radar contact near Penang Island. If the aircraft continued on its last known heading at its last known speed after radar was lost, it would reach these coordinates in approximately twenty minutes. The embedded position is exactly where the aircraft would be expected to be, and this can be independently verified against the official Malaysian radar track data.
7:40 Boeing 777 Thermal Profile
The cloud formations visible in the satellite video have been compared against NASA Worldview, a free, publicly available tool that provides historical satellite imagery from MODIS and EUMETSAT sensors. The cloud patterns in the video are consistent with actual meteorological conditions at eight degrees north, ninety-three degrees east on March the eighth, 2014. Anyone can verify this. Go to NASA Worldview, enter the date and coordinates, and compare. The clouds in the video match the weather that was actually present at that location on the night MH370 disappeared.
8:19 Stereoscopic 3D and the Lin Case
The thermal video shows an aircraft planform, its shape as seen from the side and above, that matches a Boeing 777-200ER. The wing sweep angle, the fuselage length-to-wingspan ratio, and the engine nacelle spacing produce what Forbes describes as a literal perfect overlay when compared against the Boeing 777 Airport Planning Document, the manufacturer's own dimensional reference. The aircraft in the video is a 777. The thermal profile is not generic, it matches the specific variant that MH370 was.
9:05 Katherine Tee and the Cruisers Forum
The satellite footage can be converted to stereoscopic three-D, a format that produces depth perception from dual synchronised camera perspectives. This is not a format that would result from fabrication, it requires actual three-dimensional spatial data. In 2024, attorney Larry Youngner, who defended Navy officer Edward C. Lin in a federal espionage prosecution, confirmed publicly that stereoscopic three-D satellite video was presented as evidence in the Lin case. This confirms the United States military possesses and uses stereoscopic satellite video as an intelligence product. The format of the MH370 footage is consistent with a known military capability.
10:00 Three Major Debunk Claims
On March the eighth, 2014, a sailor named Katherine Tee was aboard the yacht SY Anahita in the Indian Ocean. She reported seeing a low-flying aircraft with an orange glow, trailing dark smoke across the sky. She documented this on the Cruisers Forum, a sailing community website, and it was picked up by Reuters in June 2014. The critical detail is timing. Tee reported her sighting before either video became widely known. And the footage was uploaded before her account gained any public attention. Neither could have been fabricated to match the other. Her described location is broadly consistent with the satellite video coordinates. This is independent corroboration with a temporal structure that makes retroactive fabrication impossible. ## ACT 3: THE DEBUNKING DEBATE
10:07 The Textures.org Cloud Match
Three major arguments have been raised against the footage's authenticity. Each deserves serious examination.
11:14 Corridor Crew's VFX Analysis
In August 2023, a six-day-old Reddit account claimed to have identified a stock cloud photograph on Textures dot org that matched the satellite video background. If the video's clouds came from a stock photo, the footage is fabricated. Forbes identified ten specific problems with this claim. The images cannot be found in hundred-gigabyte torrent archives of the Textures dot org database that predate 2023. The site's database elements were modified on December the fourth, 2023, months after the debate started. Reverse image searches for the specific images do not lead back to Textures dot org, though other images on the site do appear in reverse searches. The match is not pixel-perfect, it requires rotation, scaling, and colour correction to align. And critically, the cloud patterns in the video match NASA Worldview satellite imagery for the actual date and location. The clouds appear to show real weather, not a stock texture.
11:41 Point-by-Point Rebuttal
In late 2023, YouTube channel Corridor Crew, a team of visual effects professionals, published a thirteen-minute analysis concluding the footage was fabricated. They cited what they described as VFX artifacts, uniform particle behaviour, and suspicious camera tracking. Their analysis attracted millions of views and is frequently cited as definitive proof of fabrication.
12:28 The NROL Satellite Dating Problem
Forbes dismantled their arguments in a point-by-point rebuttal. The core problem is scope. Corridor Crew's thirteen-minute video addressed none of the forensic evidence. They never mentioned MISB 0601 compliance. They never addressed the multi-layer frame rate structure. They did not examine the stereoscopic three-D format, the coordinate verification, or the NASA Worldview weather match. They did not attempt a VFX recreation demonstrating how the footage could be produced. Their analysis amounted to visual impression, experienced effects artists looking at footage and saying it looked like visual effects. That is not forensic analysis. It is opinion. And it left the strongest authentication evidence entirely unaddressed.
13:19 An Honest Assessment
The third challenge involved the satellite itself. Early analysis identified the relay satellite visible in the footage as NROL-33, launched in May 2014, which would mean the video could not have been captured in March 2014. This was a legitimate dating problem. In 2024, Forbes resolved it. The satellite is not NROL-33. It is NROL-22, also designated USA-184, a relay satellite launched on June the twenty-eighth, 2006. NROL-22 was fully operational in March 2014 and its orbital characteristics are consistent with the footage. The dating problem does not exist.
14:31 The Physical Debris Question
The honest assessment requires acknowledging what each side gets right. The sceptics are correct that there is no verified chain of custody for the videos. Metadata can theoretically be fabricated, though the complexity required is extreme. There has been no institutional validation, no government or recognised forensic body has authenticated the footage. The authentication case is also substantial. Fourteen independent technical features are consistent with genuine military surveillance. The MISB compliance, the three-layer frame rates, the stereoscopic format, the coordinate trajectory, and the NASA weather match are each independently verifiable. No VFX recreation has successfully replicated these characteristics despite years of attempts, including a high-profile project by VFX artist Julian Dory that was never completed. What is missing, from both sides, is a forensic examination by qualified analysts with no predetermined conclusion. ## ACT 4: THE DEBRIS QUESTION
15:20 The Drift Contradiction
The footage is not the only physical evidence. Beginning in July 2015, pieces of MH370 began washing ashore, starting with a section of wing called a flaperon, found on Reunion Island east of Madagascar. Over the following months, thirty-three pieces of debris confirmed or assessed as near-certain to be from MH370 were recovered from six countries, Reunion, Mauritius, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa, and Madagascar. The debris has serial numbers. The identifications are confirmed. Physical wreckage from MH370 exists in the real world. This is a fact that any investigation must account for.
16:05 The Barnacle Anomaly
But the debris raised as many questions as it answered. Before any wreckage was found, drift models predicted debris would reach the coast of Western Australia within three to six months. Instead, the overwhelming majority was recovered on African coastlines, over five thousand kilometres in the opposite direction. Almost nothing washed up near Australia. Post-discovery modelling has shown that debris from the seventh arc can eventually reach both coasts, the drift is chaotic, driven by seasonal currents and the Indian Ocean Dipole. But the geographical pattern remains difficult to reconcile with a crash at thirty-three to thirty-five degrees south, where the Bayesian analysis placed the highest probability.
16:46 Blaine Gibson and the Statistics
There is another anomaly, one that has received far less attention. The flaperon was found sixteen months after MH370 disappeared. But the barnacle growth on it indicates approximately three to four months of ocean exposure. This discrepancy appears across the recovered debris, not just the flaperon. The biological evidence, barnacle size, species composition, minimal marine colonisation, is difficult to reconcile with wreckage that spent sixteen months drifting in tropical and subtropical waters. The official investigation has not provided a detailed explanation for this pattern.
17:37 Neither Narrative Explains Everything
A significant portion of the debris was recovered by a single individual, an American named Blaine Alan Gibson. Gibson personally found or was present for the discovery of multiple pieces across several countries. His dedication to the search is documented. His critics question the statistical probability of one person finding so many pieces across such a vast area. His supporters note that he systematically searched the most likely beachfall zones based on drift modelling. The debris is real. The serial numbers match. But the circumstances of its discovery, its biological profile, and its geographical distribution raise questions that neither the official investigation nor its critics have fully answered.
18:20 What We've Established
If the aircraft crashed into the Southern Indian Ocean, the debris is explained, but the barnacle growth, the African coastline concentration, and the complete failure to locate wreckage at the crash site are not. If the footage is authentic and the aircraft was intercepted near the Nicobar Islands, then the debris must have been placed, which requires a level of operational planning that is extraordinary, though not without precedent in intelligence operations. Forbes argues the biological evidence supports this interpretation. Neither narrative explains everything. Both require accepting at least one uncomfortable proposition. ## ACT 5: BRIDGE TO EPISODE 3
18:58 If the Footage Is Real, What Are They?
Across two episodes, we have now established the following. A Boeing 777 disappeared from radar in March 2014. Two hundred and forty thousand square kilometres of ocean floor have been searched without locating it. Two leaked videos exhibit fourteen independent technical features consistent with authentic military surveillance. Three major debunk claims have been addressed with specific, verifiable counter-evidence. Thirty-three pieces of physical debris exist, but their biological profile and geographic distribution raise unresolved questions.
19:13 A Branch of Physics the Navy Has Funded
If the footage is real, if three luminous objects did intercept a Boeing 777 over the Indian Ocean, then the question becomes unavoidable. What are they?
19:54 Bridge to Part Three
The answer may lie in a branch of physics that has been quietly funded by the United States military for decades. Field-reversed configuration plasma. Aneutronic boron fusion. Patents filed by the US Navy describing technology that the patent office rejected as implausible, until the Navy's Chief Technology Officer intervened and stated it was operable. In 2004, Navy pilots off the coast of California encountered an object that exhibited flight characteristics consistent with the objects in the MH370 footage. The Pentagon has acknowledged that encounter is genuine.
20:09 The Promise
In Part Three, we examine the science. The plasma physics, the fusion research, the patents, and the classified programmes that connect what the footage shows to what the United States military has been developing for decades.
