Field-reversed configuration (FRC)

A variety of compact toroid with no appreciable toroidal field, beta values close to unity, no rotational transform, and equilibrium currents maintained by diamagnetism. Characterized by a scrape-off layer exhausting heat and particles outside the coil system.
